Candidates for any of these positions must meet certain stringent requirements, since national security is at stake:
Must be a minimum of 24 years of Age
U.S. citizen
High school graduate or GED
Willingness to make a one-year commitment
Meet certain medical and physical fitness requirements
Cleared American Guards (CAGs)
CAGs provide physical security at Department of State construction sites. They provide perimeter and internal access control, control of security storage areas, and personnel or material escort within the construction site.
In addition to the general requirements, CAGs must:
Possess three or more years of security military or civilian security experience
Possess an operational knowledge of technical security systems (alarms, metal detectors, etc.)
Be familiar with Department of State construction security procedures
Construction Surveillance Technicians (CSTs)
CSTs are responsible for monitoring uncleared construction personnel to insure that no clandestine electronic eavesdropping equipment is installed in the building during construction. CSTs must possess specific knowledge and skills, and must have at least five years of experience in one of the following areas:
